Important information

If you are moving abroad for more than 8 months, you must deregister from the municipality. You can deregister in two ways: online or at the municipality. Your departure from the Netherlands can only be done online if all residents of the address move abroad at the same time. If you live with several other people on the same address and not everyone is moving abroad, then only the persons that are moving with you need to come to the municipality personally. This also applies to children under the age of 18.

Good to know:

  • Notify the municipality within 5 days prior to your departure.
  • Emigration means moving abroad for a longer period of time. This implies that within a period of one year you will live a minimum of 8 months abroad.
  • This period does not need to be continuous.
Who can report the move?
  • Anyone who is 16 years and older.
  • Parents, guardians or carers for children under the age of 16.
  • Parents for their resident adult child or children (only if the parents and children that live together move abroad).
  • Spouses that live on the same address and registered partners can do it for each other (only if you move abroad together).
  • Adult child for his or her parents (only when the child and the parents live together and move abroad together).
  • The curator for a person who has been placed under guardianship.
The municipality kindly ask you to provide:
  • If applicable, the names and birth dates of family members who emigrate with you.
  • Your old address.
  • Your new address.
  • The date of emigration.
Note:
  • Declaration of a move abroad can not be done by an authorized representative.
  • You will be deregistered on the day that you submit your move (not per your actual departure date).
  • It is not possible for the municipality to print an extract with departure data after the day of departure. You can request one at a desk of registration of non-residents.
